So there I was, just eight months ago trying another online education software for the first time. The reviews were fairly good and the guy who marketed it had lots of positive testimonials. He said in his sales webinar that there was a 30 day “no questions asked” money back guaranty. “Just try my online educational software for 30 days, If you are not completely satisfied with it, I’ll refund your money.”. Only one problem. He and his company were in a different country. I already had negative experiences with people from other countries so I just passed. I’m not saying that these companies are bad or ineffective. I just decided that I better stick to my own back yard where rules and laws were clearer. Actually, that’s not a very accurate conclusion. Nonetheless, I was afraid.
My Dad’s old words of advice came rushing back to my consciousness. “Stick with what you know”, he said. Being the rebel that I am, I thought: If we always stick with what we know, we’ll never learn new stuff”. I knew I had to take SOME risk. I was broke and I needed to make some money. I chose the online world for three reasons: At 72 years of age, I did not qualify for many jobs. Heck, Walmart wouldn’t hire me as a “greeter”. I’m a nice guy, too! Reason number two was that I did not qualify for most jobs I wanted because I’m and ex-felon. In the eyes of most employers, “ex-felon” and “accountable employee” constitute and oxymoron. Number three, I figured I could learn to make money online if I found the right teachers and trainers with the right products and services.
I had been searching for over 3 years for the right fit; spent some money, time and went through a few laptops. I was just looking for teacher/trainer that really cared whether I’d make money. As you have most likely read, I tested a lot of these things. It was only recently that I started to think that it was ME. I thought that, in spite of what all the money motivated gurus would say, it WAS MY FAULT! You know how they always say: “Your failure is not your fault”. So, using my Encovery practice I looked within. Guess what I found? IT WAS MY FAULT. I listened to my emotions of excitement rather than analyzing my actions on past programs I tried. I failed because I stopped short. It got to technical, complicated, and I’d get lost. So… I’d quit and look for the next shiny object program. I’d get all excited and start for a week or two; get discouraged because I couldn’t figure it out and….well, you might know the drill.
I took a few weeks off...went to visit my brothers up in Redding, CA. While I was there I realized that I had a lot to learn and I just wanted to go back to the drawing board and re-evaluate this whole “make money online” gig. Everyone that was really successful was younger (of course so was most of the whole world) and had extra energy. Additionally, they were born with a computer connected to their umbilical cord. Looking inside, I knew that all that stuff was BS. I could learn. If mothers and housewives and plumbers and school teachers could make money with their computer, so could I. So… I hurried home to Ventura, got out my old notebook and started looking for good programs that I started buy quit on before I reached any degree of profitability. I went back to my old shortcuts and watched some YouTube videos that I had forgotten about. I was on a mission. I knew that there were many good teachers that I could learn from if I would just identify them and learn and apply their training. Shoot, I already paid for it once. I just did not stick to it. Or…it was free to start and I did not give its due value. Guess Who I found in my search..
Kyle Loudoun and Chris Record. Founders of Wealthy Affiliate and Tecademics respectively. Originally, I joined the free version of Wealthy affiliate in 2014. Thence, the free version of Tecademics in 2016. These guys had developed programs that were not only wildly successful, their character was admirable. They are great teachers. I didn’t make any money with them because I was an idiot! I did not carry through. I stopped short. I did not press on. Well, a new attitude was now directing my actions. I went back to some old emails and found that they were both around and very accessible. Kyle and Carson of WA both welcomed me back and I started on the paid training at once. If you would like to know more, you can access Wealthy Affiliate with THIS LINK. Chris Record had started a new venture with his partner Peter Sorensen called “LifePreneur”...it’s still in beta as of this writing and I knew that Chris was right on. When I found out that a new beginner like me could make honest money, I jumped on it like a duck on a junebug. Just take a peak at LifePreneur HERE.
It’s understandable that my personal little journey is not like yours. A beautiful thing about building an internet business and making money online is this: We can always start over. We can learn. We can grow into success. Experience, age, computer skills, our past, anything we can think of does not have to deter us from starting over with a fresh attitude, a new state of mind. I am finding that the online business world offers us an opportunity to make up for past failures and indiscretions. We are not condemned by the electronic world. Computers don’t care about your past. I’ve also found that folks that come online to make money don’t really care about your past either. As online business owners we just want to know: a) Can you help me make money honestly? b) How will your product or service benefit mankind (or even a small portion thereof)? c) Can I rely on your information and help? Everything else is up to me. Words from an old poem:
“….To get the apple that is prime, you have to reach then stretch and climb; those things you treasure more and more are those you’ve had to struggle for”
Let’s be grateful for the struggle. You have yours and I have mine. Onward my friend!
